Blue Water News - September 2008

Dear Spearfishing Enthusiast,

Welcome to the latest newsletter from Blue Water Hunting International Pty Ltd.

I hope all of our readers have been keeping well and enjoying their diving. I have been kept very busy with my filming work in the past 6 months. I have however had some magical spearfishing moments as well.

The 2008 year got off to a great start for three of the BWHI guides in Drew Fenney, Ian Puckeridge and Adam Smith who had the honour of representing Australia in the 2008 Inter Pacific Spearfishing Championships in Hawaii. For the first time ever Australia won this prestigious international event in “tropical waters” and l would like to take this opportunity in congratulating these three champion divers. Your excellent dive skills and great “people” skills is what makes you guys such reliable and likeable guides on our Blue Water Hunting trips, congratulations guys, l am proud of your achievements and look forward to having you onboard on future trips!

I have just come back from the South Island of New Zealand on one of my most exciting spearfishing trips ever! Here, l was working with a small group of clients on an extreme Blue Water Hunting expedition in search of monster Pacific Blue fin Tuna. The good news is that l can report we had magnificent conditions and managed great results with all of the clients encountering monster tuna up to 700 pounds. Several fish were landed and we also managed some amazing footage of this trip. I have just completed an article for “International Free diving and Spearfishing News” titled Target Tuna. This article showcases this trip and the below link shows one of the 450 pound Blue fin Tuna being speared.

The Tuna are chummed up from the depths and clients can encounter these magnificent fish up on the surface. No need to dive deep here, the tuna come to the chum! These “guided” trips offer your average spearo an amazing opportunity to encounter one of the largest game fish in the ocean, the Pacific Blue Fin Tuna. These fish can reach over 1000 pounds! World Record sized Southern Blue fin Tuna can also be found early in the season with fish over 200 pounds quite common. This is the second year running that we have managed very successful trips to this new destination. We have several guided Blue Water Hunting packages to this region in July and August 2009. These trips are limited to just five divers per trip so if you are thinking about this trip contact us as soon as possible. For a fact sheet about trip info for these trips click below.

December 2008 sees another Coral Sea trip on board the MV Norkat 11. Here we plan to visit Marion Reef out of Mackay and l am quietly confident of another amazing trip on board the Norkat 11. Many of the 2007 clients have returned although we have a few new faces including a spearo all the way from Russia.

2009 promises to be another amazing year. We will have our standard Coral Sea trip in December along with the Blue fin Tuna trips to New Zealand along with a few trips to Dirk Hartog Island, Western Australia. The Dirk Hartog Island trips off the West Australian coast are great trips and offer divers the opportunity to dive in one of the most pristine dives sites in the world. Check out our website in coming weeks for more details.

Click here for more information on these trips to Dirk Hartog Island.

I look forward to these exciting trips and will keep you updated with these expeditions in upcoming newsletters.
Until next issue which is due out in January 2009, safe diving to you all.

Best Regards
Rob Torelli.
